For the second time in a month, thieves have gone through portions of Benicia’s Industrial Park and cut off brass water valves. Seven businesses on East Industrial Way (5000 – 6000 blocks), East Channel Road (300 – 400 blocks), and Park Road (4400 block) where victimized between Friday evening, May 18 and early Monday morning, May 21.
“This is very frustrating for the businesses,” said Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley in a release. “Our officers are providing extra patrols and our detectives are working some leads, but we also need those who work the early morning hours in our Industrial Park to call us if they see suspicious cars or people around closed businesses.”
The latest rash of thefts resulted in brass pressure reduction or backflow prevention valves being cut from the exposed risers in front of the businesses. According to Lt. Daley, “The time frame varies from Friday afternoon, through Saturday evening, and continuing to Monday morning.”
Benicia’s Industrial Park experienced similar thefts at the beginning of the month when 11 valves were stolen from Industrial Park businesses. The thefts have occurred over the weekend, when most businesses are closed.
