Construction Tender Changes at Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada
LCLC changes looming
BRIDGEWATER – Negotiations are under way to determine the scope of changes needed to have the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre wiggle under its approximately $33 million budget after construction tenders came in higher than anticipated.
“At this point, it has nothing to do with downsizing the facility. It’s modifying what we have,” said Paul Belliveau, chairman of the board overseeing the project, which is expected to include an NHL-sized ice surface; a six-lane, 25-metre pool; a therapeutic and children’s pool area with a slide; a two-floor library; and other recreational and meeting space.
The target date for completion of the project has been late 2012.
GBP’s Take: Although it is probably too late to make any significant design changes to this center, it would have been a good opportunity for the Bridgewater Development Association, which manages the business park, to provide meeting rooms, a small kiosk with office supplies, and possibly a web-conferencing facility all of which could be used by the Business Park tenants and larger community. If there isn’t a day-care facility on-site in the business park, that might be another amenity to either put into the center or provide elsewhere for workers in the business park. Those details are what may be the tipping point to attract additional tenants to progressively-administered business and industrial parks.
