Lowe’s to Build Distribution Center in North Floyd Industrial Park, Rome, GA
The Rome News-Tribune reports (Click Here) that Lowe’s Companies, Inc. has closed on the acquisition of 140 acres of property in the North Floyd Industrial Park located north of Rome, Georgia on Highway 53.
A formal groundbreaking has been scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. Floyd County Commission Chairman Eddie Lumsden confirmed that Gov. Nathan Deal would be in Rome to be a part of the ceremonies associated with the groundbreaking. Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Cummiskey is also expected to take part in the ceremonies.
The preliminary timetable for the project calls for site preparation work to get under way almost immediately and take between three and six months. Construction of the massive distribution center should take between eight and 10 months and then it will take several months to get equipment and machinery into the building.
If all goes according to schedule, the facility should open by the spring of 2013 with approximately 150 employees according to Kroeschell.
Full employment of close to 600 workers is expected to be accomplished by 2016.
