BANGKOK — Tiki is a sparsely populated mountainous area in southern Myanmar, 10km from the border with Thailand. It is where Amata, Thailand’s largest developer and operator of industrial parks, plans to this year start the development of a large special economic zone.

When Myanmar President Thein Sein visited an Amata industrial park during his visit to Thailand in August 2012, CEO Vikrom Kromadit explained his proposal to develop a similar project in Myanmar. He obtained the president’s approval. Vikrom aims to have client companies this year start constructing plants in the new industrial park.
