KOTA KINABALU: Fifteen cars were destroyed when a fire tore through two automobile repair workshops, resulting in about RM2.5 million in damages, at the Nountun Industrial Estate in Inanam, Tuesday.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Zone Head 1, Hamsa Isnurdini, said 31 firemen and four fire engines were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.13pm.

“We arrived at the scene at 1.20pm and were able to control the fire by 1.47pm from spreading further and totally put out the fire by 1.55pm.

“Fifteen cars were burnt in the fire, which started initially from one workshop and rapidly spread to the other. Luckily, firefighters were able to control the fire in time so it did not spread to the neighbouring workshop.

“The fire resulted in one of the workshops being totally destroyed while the other only partially,” he said.

The operation only ended at 4.31pm.
